STUDENTS ON RAMPAGE,BURNT DOWN A CAR

Students of Adeyemi College of Education, ACE,Ondo State, yesterday, went on rampage as one of them was crushed to death and two others knocked down by a reckless driver.

The driver of the vehicle reportedly escaped death by the whiskers as the students set his car ablaze, while the two students that sustained injuries were rushed to the Trauma Centre in Ondo. The students blocked the expressway with bonfires, which resulted in a traffic gridlock for hours.

An eyewitness account said the three students were walking along the road outside the institution after lectures when the vehicle knocked them down and overran them. A student of the institution, Bolanle, told reporters that the vehicle was moving at top speed when it swerved and knocked down the three students. Some of the students visited the headquarters of the Ondo West Local Government Area and the Police station in Yaba area of the town to register their grievances.

However, the institution's Public Relations Officer, Mrs Seto Olatuyi, said the victims were not students of the institution. But the spokesperson of the state Police Command, Femi Joseph, said the three victims are students of the institution. He added that the state Police Commissioner, Olugbenga Adeyanju, has deployed some policemen to the scene of the incident to maintain peace and to ensure free flow of vehicular movement in the area.
