DEPUTY GOVERNORS OF CBN CONFIRMED BY THE SENATE

The Senate today confirmed the nomination of Aishah Ahmad and Edward Lametek Adamu as deputy governors of Central Bank of Nigeria. Ahmad and Adamu were nominated by President Buhari in October 2017 and February 2018 respectively.

However, their confirmations were delayed by the Senate after it placed an embargo on all presidential nominees following a faceoff with the presidency.

"I would like to thank the Committee on Banking and Finance and all our colleagues for this action today. We promised the country last week that within a week we would carry out this confirmation and we have done this."," Senate President Bukola Saraki said shortly the confirmation.

The senate also confirmed three nominees for appointment as members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBN. Those confirmed for the appointment are Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, Dr Aliyu Sanusi and Dr Robert Asogwa. The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the screening report of Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.

One of the nominees for the MPC,  Dr Asheikh Maidugu, was rejected because he failed to answer some of the question he was asked during the screening.
