LOOK DOWN ON NO ONE

I followed a conversation on twitter where people shared experiences of  how they responded to the culture changes when they left Nigeria.

A particular instance given was a guy who was in class where a lecturer was teaching and a student stood up to disagree with him. The teacher surprisingly asked him to go ahead with his objection and he did not die after the class.I told my brother that if this happened in a class  in Nigeria, that student will write the exam of that lecturer till Jesus comes back,he will never, ever pass no matter what he writes.

We live in a society where people do not value you as a person, they value you based on what you are.
For people like us who attended a college of education, you see all levels of madness displayed by lecturers.

You find students kneeling down in offices, some others crying to be able to get help from lecturers. Many times we have to wait hours to carry their bags to the office so that we can at least have an opportunity to speak to them .

Even in many of our public universities, lectures have become mini gods, immortal and invisible gods that no one must approach. How can you even pass knowledge to somebody if they cannot access you. I remember when my dad had to go with my brother to UI to help out with a dramatic lecturer,he had to intervene because he felt the lecturer will respond better when he meets an elderly person. The man embarrassed them both and was even threatening to do worse than the matter on ground. It was really disappointing.

This attitude cut across every sector, you walk into an office and the Secretaries will give you a wash down of your life if you do not have a name.

It is this same attitude that will make people post images of victims and dead people on social media ,a very degrading act .We do not respect people here.  We talk to the gate man anyhow but we are polite to the general manager. Yes,we should respect people in high places but any man made in God's image is already high so we must give that first respect beyond who they are and what they can give us.
When we start to respect people for been human, you will treat everyone you meet well. There is nothing bad in saying hi to a cab man whose services you used, appreciating a bike man after he drops you won't kill you.

Remember we are human after all, circumstances of life just made some look superior.

Think about these things!!!
