REVEALED: Our future is better than any Islamic agenda- Group
The group identified as Alliance for democratic freedom has come up with one of the most striking statements regarding the candidacy of former President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress APC. The group, while reiterating what it termed the obvious, accused the APC candidate of having an Islamic agenda, saying Buhari is undoubtedly behind the ongoing Northern uprising.
The group stated that Nigerians and its youth were not oblivious of Buhari and the APC gimmicks of selling Nigeria to yonder, saying that by making Prof. Osinbajo his running mate, Nigerians won't be deceived into believing that the party and its candidate have a positive agenda for the country.
It referred to Jonathan's government as a victim of acidic and selfish political agenda of some people who have come to play games with the lives of millions of Nigerians. The group further gave several reasons why it calls Buhari's candidacy a bluff.
The statement reads below:
In the exact words of George Orwell," In a time of deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act". This underscores why we have decided to speak out over the ongoing deceit in our polity and the vehement attempt to confuse our listening hearts, and to turn us against our dear government, a government we have noted has become a victim of acidic and selfish political agenda. The aim of those fighting our government is to obliterate our hard earned democracy and achieve their purpose by playing games with the lives of millions of Nigerians, installing obnoxious policies through the person of Muhammadu Buhari who obviously come with an unpopular islamic agenda.
We are standing against this utopian dream of a highly religious agenda of the APC and its candidate. We wish to express the views of George Orwell again that, "the most effective ways to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history."
Nigerians deserve to know their history. It is by so doing that we can redefine our present for a better future for ourselves and our unborn children. While refusing to support the candidacy of former Head of States, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, we urge all Nigerians to see the attempts by the opposition APC to boot Jonathan out of office through their campaign of calumny as a replica of George Orwell's Animal farm, where the same Animals under the leadership of Napoleon unknowingly transformed into the same manor farm they earlier dethroned. It's clear from our standpoint that the gradual and conservative approach of President Goodluck Jonathan towards national security and other pressing challenges is applauded as against having to uphold a radical approach of the Buharists.
Having understood our history from the perspective of our leadership, we have no doubt that like the Animal Farm, Buhari and his cohorts are bent at sending us back to the arrogant days of the "Manor" farm. They are bent at using every means to return Nigerians to autocracy or what we may term dictatorship. What APC has failed to understand is that Nigerians have embraced the glorious and new world order and are no longer ready to go back to their 'vomits'
The Buhari we don't want
There are several reasons we have painstakingly taken this position. One of them is to avert an impending ill-luck and the virus of Buharism for the nation. This is because we know where we are coming from and our destination. The journey as we see is still very far considering the damage done to our country during the military eras. Nigeria is even where we are today because some people made some sacrifices by returning us to a more civil government, hence we have no reason to disrupt the government which has set a clear and measurable agenda for the Nigerian people Under the Goodluck Jonathan Administration. Nigeria is a free country where citizens reserve the right to associate and worship without intimidation so we are not willing to return to days of Tyranny.
The Violent Buhari:
Buhari who said after losing the 2015 election that he was going to make Jonathan's government ungovernable truly lived up to his threat. It should be noted however, that the insecurity he created has attracted more sympathy to the Jonathan's government, contrary to his expectation. He has said again that " if what happened in 2011 should repeat itself in 2015, by God's grace, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood".
As peace loving Nigerians, we abhor violence at all levels and we are always very careful in making decisions. All decisions must be that which should have positive impacts on the larger society. For this reason, and based on our stands against violence, we call on all well meaning Nigerians to by this statement disown the former military ruler in his quest to unseat the incumbent President, Goodluck Jonathan. Buhari should know that we have fought one war in the past, and we are not ready at the moment to fight another. His utterances have given him away so cheaply and we cannot contemplate voting against him come February. We must not patronize violence, as we have suffered enough already from the war he declared against the government in the North.
His open support for Boko Haram
Buhari has never hidden his violent campaign through the terrorists group, Boko Haram. On a radio program in Kaduna- Liberty Radio, the same man cautioned the Federal Government against demolishing houses owned by members of the sect. This underscores his open support for the group. A vote for Buhari is no doubt a vote for Abubakar Shekau.
A murderer?
We are not totally sure what Buhari meant when he said he would not regret the murder of Ogbengbe. He said that even in another world, he was ready to commit the same atrocity. Will it then be wrong to say that it's only the deaf who has not heard the number of great men Nigeria lost under Buhari's military regime? We beg to remind Nigerians of the manhandling of Tai Solarin who was incarcerated by the same man. What is worse than denying a man his freedom as well as his medical treatment. It takes a 'stoned' heart to allow a man to rotten in jail. Won't any support for this unfriendly demi-god be a crime against Nigerians and the souls of those who died in his hands? Victory is not for those who kill as they shall die by the same sword.
If Buhari in his violent and self-centered character could humiliate an Emir of Kano and the Oni of Ife over a trip to Israel as against his wish, then it is easily deduced that having no regards for the royalty, he can easily trample on all of us. It means Nigeria would be heading to the bad old days of reckoning. How can a policy be at the extreme for a citizen to acquire a pass from the president before traveling out of the country? This means extreme abuse of citizen's fundamental human rights. We cannot be part of this train as it will surely run off the rail.
Chief Adekunle Ajasin's illegal detention after he was arraigned and acquitted by an election tribunal is still fresh in the minds of most Nigerians. Buhari re-arrested Ajasin on several occasions and later ordered that he be detained indefinitely just for winning an election. This goes to show that Buhari may never handover to an elected civilian government if he emerges victorious in 2015. Nigerians should then be ready to remain under the shackles of Buhari's slavery for years. Once a military dictator, always one. Buhari will chastise us this time, not with whip, but with grenades and bombs. We have refused to support violence and victimization.
Ebenezer babatope was also incarcerated under Buhari's military junta, and remained banned in prison throughout Buhari's era. What was his crime? Buhari hasn't told Nigeria till today.
The truth is that every country deserves the leadership it gets. Nigeria does not deserve a leader who is intellectually lacking. It does not deserve a leader whose leadership style has remained one of the most reference points regarding anarchy. We sure deserve better than Buhari
